Hyaluronic acid for skin care: How is it good for your skin?

I want to know about hyaluronic acid for skin care
Is hyaluronic acid for skin care expensive?
Is there are any alternative ingredients for hyaluronic acid skin care

As you may know, hyaluronic acid is one of the most popular ingredients in the cosmetic market and I think a lot of you actually use them.
In this article, I would like to explain the basic information about hyaluronic acid and its disadvantage that not so many people know. Also, let me explain some alternative ingredients for hyaluronic acid as well.
So, let’s get started.

Hyaluronic acid for skin care

In this section, I would like to share some information about hyaluronic acid and its main effectiveness. Don’t you want to know if it has any side effects, you’ll be able to know everything here.

What is hyaluronic acid

I think the most well know effectiveness of hyaluronic acid is “hydration”.
Hyaluronic acid is an ingredient with excellent water retention properties, retaining a lot of amount of liters of water per gram.
It works to hydrate both eyes and skin and plays a lubricating role in joints.
Hydration is the key to good skin, so we can’t talk about skincare without hyaluronic acid.

Hyaluronic acid is also an ingredient that exists everywhere in the human body, but it has a tendency to decrease as we get old.
The amount of hyaluronic acid in the body peaks at the age of 20 and continues to decrease, but the rate of decline speeds up rapidly after the age of 40, and by the age of 60, it is known to have reduced to less than half of its level in the 20s.

How is it good for your skin

Hyaluronic acid has a good effect not only on the skin but also on the eyes and joints.
As you may know, hyaluronic acid can keep water for a long time and keeps the skin hydrated, and creates skin with firmness and elasticity.

In addition, since the hyaluronic aid can plump up the skin it can prevent wrinkles and sagging so that it can help maintain young, fresh skin. For this reason, hyaluronic acid is also well-known as an anti-aging ingredient, and people are very interested in it.
There are a lot of ways to use hyaluronic acid but cosmetics and supplements are quite popular. Hyaluronic acid is also used as hyaluronic acid injections for cosmetic and plastic surgery procedures because of its high safety.

Also as I mentioned, hyaluronic acid is known for reducing the pain of the joint by making cartilage and hyaluronic is known for moisturizing human eyes, actually, a lot of eye drops we see at the drugstore include hyaluronic acid.

Is there are any side effects?

Not always, but seems like there are not so many major side effects.
However, there is a little disadvantage which is poor flexibility and persistence.

When you apply only hyaluronic acid to the skin, as it dries over time, it gives the skin a feeling of tightness due to film formation, and the skin feels hard compared to the first time.
When people feel dryness on their skin they keep applying hyaluronic acid and applying hyaluronic acid repeatedly can cause the skin to become waterlogged and it can reduce the barrier function and result in dry skin.

However, many cosmetics manufacturers try to solve this disadvantage by adding glycerin and other ingredients together.

Good combo ingredients with hyaluronic acid for skin care

In this section, let me introduce some good combo ingredients with hyaluronic acid.
Hyaluronic acid itself is a good ingredient but if you use those ingredients above, you can feel not only hydration but also other effectiveness!
There are 4 ingredients I would like to introduce.

Retinol

The first one is retinol. I think I lot of you might already know what it is, yes it is a vitamin A that increases collagen in human skin and also helps cell turnover.
Retinol can work in a lot of ways and another famous effectiveness in reducing wrinkles and making skin smooth.

Retinol is famous but also it is known that some people feel irritation by using it.
However, if you use it with hyaluronic acid, you can feel the retinol’s effect without feeling irritation due to the hydration effect from hyaluronic acid.

Vitamin C

The next one is one of the most famous ingredients, Vitamin C. Vitamin C is a strong antioxidant and an important nutrient that humans can’t produce on their own so it is important to take.
Vitamin C can help the skin from UV damage, free-radical,and also enhance cell turnover as well. Also, it is known for boosting collagen, and having anti-inflammatory effects as well.

The combination of hyaluronic acid and vitamin C is wonderful and both can work well on the skin. It can brighten, and moisturize skin and also it can reduce wrinkles and improve human skin texture.

Glycolic acid

The next one is Glycolic acid which is an AHA (alpha-hydroxy acid) and it has anti-inflammatory effects. Glycolic acid is made of small molecules so that it makes it easier for your skin to absorb and it can work as an exfoliant, reducing the fine lines.
Also, it can cleanse the pores, and eventually, it helps skin from sun damage or acne scars.

Ceramides

The last one is ceramides and it is also famous ingredients and it is known for moisturizing your skin. It is a moisturizing waxy liquid and it maintains the water permeability barrier function. It works as a glue for skin cells and protects our skin from damage.

The ceramides and hyaluronic acid have different effects but it works very well by
plumping and moisturizing the skin. Ceramides can calm irritated and inflamed skin and also it can strengthen the cell structure of the skin.

Why there are huge price differences in hyaluronic acid for skin care

I think you can buy hyaluronic acid skin care items at the drugstore and you can buy them at quite a cheap price but also you see a lot of expensive skincare items that have hyaluronic acid. Don’t you ever wonder what makes them different and which one is better?
Here are some possible answers to this.

Molecular weight

The first one is “molecular weight”. I think it can fit a lot of ingredients but usually tiny/smaller molecular weight hyaluronic acid can work better and also can have long-term benefits/effectiveness so the size is quite important and it can change the price.

Other added ingredients

The second factor is other added ingredients. I think this is quite an obvious one but if you use a lot of ingredients it will increase the price. The price of raw materials ranges from a few hundred yen/kg for the cheapest to several hundred thousand yen/kg for the most expensive. Therefore, even if you can keep the hyaluronic acid cheap, if you use other expensive ingredients such as NMN and other active ingredients, it would be expensive.

Packaging

The last one is the packaging. You see a very cheap container while there are a lot of gorgeous/ luxurious containers. That can change the total price quite a lot.
If you want to keep your items low or you want to focus on the ingredients more, choosing a simple container is the wiser way.

Conclusion

In this article, I explained some general information about hyaluronic acid and some good combo ingredients as well. You may already know some of the ingredients already but knowing that information is quite important. Also, I would be happy if you can remember the information on the price details.
