What can we consider when we choose private label packaging

When we need to order private label packaging, we can’t just choose what we like. You need to consider a lot of aspects such as cost, efficiency, and brand image.
In this section, I will explain what you need to consider in more detail.

Price

The cost of the packaging should be reasonable and within the budget, while still providing quality and protection.

What you can do to the packaging is quite different depending on the quantity you order.
For example, usually, you can do labeling from 100pcs though it would be comparatively high. A lot of manufacturers can handle printing from 1,000pcs, and coloring from 3,000pcs.

Also, if you can buy 3,000pcs or 5,000pcs containers at the same time, buy them and stock them until you repeat your product.
However, if you are not planning to repeat your order in a near future, the container’s quality can be lower, so you need to think about this before you do.

MOQ

Minimum Order Quantity (MOQ) is the smallest number of units of a product that a manufacturer or supplier is willing to produce or sell. When ordering private label packaging, considering MOQ is important because it can have a significant impact on the cost and feasibility of the project.
Here are some reasons why MOQ is important:

  1. Cost savings: The MOQ is often set to ensure that the manufacturer or supplier can cover their costs for materials, labor, and production. Ordering in bulk can often lead to cost savings, as the cost per unit is reduced
  1. Inventory management: Having to order a large quantity of packaging can impact inventory management and storage, especially for smaller businesses. It is important to consider the MOQ and ensure that it aligns with the business’s needs and storage capabilities.
  1. Future needs: It is also important to consider future needs and the potential for growth when ordering private label packaging. If the business is planning to expand its product line or increase its sales, it may be necessary to order a larger quantity of packaging to meet future demand.

Sustainability

Recently, I think a lot of you hear the word “sustainable”. Why is it important to consider.
Here is why:

  1. Environmental impact: Packaging is a major contributor to environmental waste and pollution. Choosing sustainable packaging materials and production methods can reduce the environmental impact of packaging and help to conserve resources.
  1. Consumer preferences: Consumers are becoming increasingly concerned about the environmental impact of products and are more likely to choose brands that prioritize sustainability. Offering sustainable packaging options can help to attract and retain customers who value eco-friendliness.
  1. Brand reputation: A commitment to sustainability can also improve a brand’s reputation and help to differentiate it from competitors. This can lead to increased customer loyalty and higher sales.

What kind of materials options do we have?

It is a bit same topic as above but we have these materials for private label packaging.
It might be a good idea to choose packaging that is made of materials you like.

Paper

Plastic:
This material is lightweight, durable, and versatile. It can be molded into various shapes and sizes, making it a popular choice for packaging products such as food, cosmetics, and household goods.

Glass:

Metal:

Biodegradable materials:

What kind of processing can we do to the private label packaging

In the last section, let me share some information about the processes you can do to your private label packaging. Packaging is often the first point of contact between a customer and a brand. Attractive and unique packaging can help to establish brand identity and create a lasting impression.

Printing/Labelling

These are quite common processing for private label containers.
The first one is printing or labeling. Those letters are essential because you need to write down the product name, brand name, and it is necessary to describe the uses, indications, and instructions for use, but information disclosure (e.g., names of ingredients, expiration date, name and address of the manufacturer and seller, lot number, etc.) is also required.

If you can order more than 1,000pcs, you can choose between printing and labeling.
However if your order quantity is less than 1,000pcs, the only choice you have is 100pcs.
Both printing and labeling have types as well. As an example, silk printing is quite a common way and it is also known as screen printing.
It is quite easy to use because it can be printed on almost anything except water and air.
It is a printing method with a wide variety of ink types.

Another one is digital Printing and it allows for fast, on-demand printing without the need for plates. It is ideal for short runs and custom designs.

For labeling, for example, you can choose whether it’s matt or sparkle.
Another one is multilayer label seals, by increasing the number of folds, it can be made into a bellows shape and a lot of information can be printed on it.

There are a lot of choices so if you have some kind of idea, it is better to ask the OEM company.
However, just remember, what you can do is different depending on the quantity, so it’s important to decide what to focus on.

Coloring

Usually, MOQ for coloring is 3,000pcs or 5,000pcs. In order to do this, you need to order a big amount but it can change the image of the packaging.
For coloring, there are also some choices.

Paste coloring:
A coloring method in which plastic pellets are mixed with a coloring agent and molded. Kneaded coloring of many kinds of lame and pearls

Deposition (e.g. vacuum deposition):
A processing method in which aluminum material is heated in a vacuum and vaporized or sublimated to adhere to the surface of the container. This process can produce a luxurious mirror-like reflection.

How can we reduce the cost?

Here is what we can do to reduce the cost of containers.

First of all, the most effective way is to use containers with fewer processes as well as to reduce the number of lots, choosing a simple container is the fastest way.

We also recommend that when requesting a quote from an OEM company, ask them to provide separate amounts for containers and contents, not including the bulk.

Conclusion

To sum up, the packaging is quite important when you trying to start your private label brand.
Private label packaging offers companies a way to establish their brand, increase control over product quality, enhance marketing efforts, save costs, and provide greater flexibility.

However, it is also important to remember that what you can do is different depending on the amount you order, therefore deciding whether you want to focus on the formulation or packaging/ price or value is the key.
